  Variety Village , People!

On Friday, April 27th the HUF boxing club hosted a Canada Golden Gloves event in support of the Variety Village charitable foundation.  The show was held in the large stadium-like indoor complex named for the charitable foundation just east of Birchmount on Danforth.  The show featured several fights in an action packed card that was highlighted by some of the bright young ladies fighting at the Atlas boxing club right now.

In the 2nd bout of the evening our Laura Miller took on tough Amanda Gallimore of the Newsgirls boxing club, it was the first time both girls took on an opponent not from their own gym.  Right from the beginning of the fight it was toe-to-toe with Laura gaining the advantage due to sheer volume of punching.  Laura’s aggressive attack pushed back her opponent in the first round, and in the second it led to Amanda getting bloodied.  Laura kept up her relentless attack into the third round as Amanda continued to have problems with her bloody nose, Laura was clearly in control throughout the fight right up until the end.  As expected the result was a clear victory for Laura, an excellent experience and victory for a promising young fighter.  Congratulations!

The 5th bout of the evening featured relative new-comer Priscilla Trompowsky who has been training hard for nearly six months and had a disappointing loss at the recent Ray McGibbon’s gloves, earning a silver there amidst a very questionable stoppage.  This time Priscilla was in tough against Amanda Galle of All Canadian boxing club in a three round exhibition.  Amanda is a young fighter of only 18 yrs who has been training in boxing for the past two years, but has only had 4 bouts before this match up with Priscilla.  Priscilla had to lose weight to fight the courageous smaller girl, but size had nothing to do with intensity…  For three rounds both girls fought as if in a real fight, and one for the championship, it seemed as they went toe-to-toe for the whole bout.  Despite Amanda being the more experienced girl Priscilla was able to land her straight right again and again.  This frustrated Amanda and led to a drop down, drag out fight between the two girls that event the referee was loath to interrupt, all credit to Ajaz Khan for doing a great job with two wild women.  The fight had several big shots landed for both girls, with Priscilla being on the receiving end of an 8-count in the 2nd round, for which Pricilla was trying to swing back even as Ajaz was jumping in.  Priscilla fought an excellent fight to finish all three rounds, earning the respect of all with her gutsy performance.  Congratulations!
