Border City Maddness
Two
weeks after our home show we were scheduled to have several of
our fighters competing on the
Border
City
event on Saturday, June 23rd.
Because of large group of fighters scheduled into the
card we went down in two cars with my father, Master coach
Adrian Teodorescu, leading the way.
Jonathan was scheduled to fight an American from the
famous Kronk boxing club in
Detroit
as the co-main event with hometown hero, Andre Gorges, who had
just lost to Jonathan on our show.
Also scheduled to fight was Ron Makovoz, Stephanie
Gagliardi-Tedesco, Mark Colucci and Jeff Kappes.
Suffice it to say that what we expected didn’t happen
as three of our fighters’ opponents didn’t show.
Congratulations to Stephanie for dropping down 8 lbs.
before this fight in order to fight a girl who didn’t show up,
and we had Laura Miller with us to see the fight in the hopes of
fighting the same girl in the future.
Jeff and Mark also had opponents who didn’t show and
were left out of the card, but thanks to them for making the
trip out and keeping us entertained.
The only two of our boxers who ended up fighter were the
most experienced ones: Jonathan
and Ron.
Ron
fought early in the show against Jessie Wilcox, the younger
brother of Steven Wilcox who he had just defeated on our home
show. Jessie, like
Steven, is a very long and lean fighter who relies on keeping
his opponents away and hitting them from long range.
Unfortunately for Jessie, Ron was ready for this style
and knew that Jessie couldn’t be too confident going into this
fight. Right from
the starting bell Rony dominated the fight, he was quicker and
more powerful than Jessie and every combination he threw seemed
to hurt the taller fighter.
In the second and again in the third round Rony gave
Jessie an 8-count on his way to a unanimous decision, and credit
should go to Jessie for having survived the fight where it
seemed that Rony would end it at any time.
Congratulations to Ron!
The second-last fight of the
evening featured our Jonathan Bochner taking on the top
contender that
Detroit
had to offer in the 69 Kg category, Dominique Dolton of the
Kronk boxing club, the club that was started by Emanuel Steward.
Dominique had the typical flashy American style that has
been so prevalent in US boxing the past few years, and he had
some power to add to his flash.
Jonathan is no stranger to American competition having
only lost three times in his past 20 bouts against Americans,
and he was ready for the flash and power that most of his past
opponents have offered him then and was ready now.
The first round saw both fighters feeling each other out
and Jonathan managed to make
Dolton
miss a few times and capitalized with quick and accurate
combinations, but didn’t try to overwhelm his opponent as his
boxing was very effective. The
second round had
Dolton
out for blood as he tried to hunt down Jonathan, but with little
success as his haymakers weren’t connecting on target.
By the third round Jonathan was done worrying about
haymakers as he rushed
Dolton
in his usual relentless style turning the fight into a toe to
toe struggle between two very experienced fighters.
The fourth round, as usual, was Jonathan’s best as a
slumping
Dolton
couldn’t effectively respond to the ceaseless attack that
Jonathan was able to sustain right to the end.
Jonathan won a unanimous decision against a tough and
skilled opponent to cap a successful run to
Windsor
for Atlas. Congratulations!
